Well Shogunites, we just got our of watching some of the new games being brought out by Warner Bros Interactive. Among them was Lego Batman and Project Origin. Pfgonzo will be talking about Batman while I will tell you a bit of what we saw on Project Origin.
John Mulkey gave us our Project Origin demo, playing through a level of the game leading up to the EPA building. The game was in a pre-beta state and frame rates were a bit choppy due to the debugging code running in the background.
The AI in the game looks really good, with enemies responding to what Mulkey calls their , 'hierarchy of needs'. They will run to available cover, switch hands when shot in a specific arm, run to better weapons in order to use them, and flee when the need arises.
The creepy Alma is back in this game, having been unleashed on the world at the end of F.E.A.R. This time, the action spills out across city streets and various urban locales. The chaos has a Lovecraft meets Michael Bay feel to it, with no shortage of body parts flying and ammunition slinging.
Weapons looked very well designed in the upcoming FPS, with them all being based loosely on real-world counterparts. However, one thing I noticed was that rockets still felt like they fly too slowly in contrast to their real-world brothers.
Something that struck me was the amount of gelatinous-looking gore and giblets that fly from the enemies twitching bodies as you fill them with hot lead. Indeed, parental watchdog groups will no doubt target this game as unsuitable for the younglings. Let them protest, though, we thought the game looked like it was staying true to the original in creep-factor while also adding alot of new features such as regenerative health.
Project Origin's release date was not available yet, but a Monolith press agent claimed an announcement would be forthcoming.
