It's a sad day for gamers still using the Xbox LIVE service on their original Xbox game consoles, as Microsoft has announced it will discontinue service for the console on April 15th, 2010. The decision was made in order to expand the current iteration of Xbox LIVE, which has been hampered by limitations on the original Xbox console.

According to Xbox LIVE General Manager, Mark Whitten, ''To reach our aspiration, we need to make changes to the service that are incompatible with our original Xbox v1 games...''

It is unclear yet if Microsoft is planning some sort of consolation package for affected gamers, as many original Xbox titles will no longer be available for multiplayer games after this move. Games such as Halo 2, Star Wars: Battlefront, and even Crimson Skies.
