Vessel Preview (PC/Steam)

Vessel-2

When I first heard about Vessel it sounded interesting, stylish 2D side scrolling action game involving water.  That description didn’t really do justice to the game and the exceptional physics involved in it, the grace and style that can be made using water in a Victorian Steam Punk environment.

The story is about an inventor named Arkwright who created Fluro, liquid based mechanical creatures, that have been integrated into every part of our modern life.  Arkwright used this knowledge and resulting wealth to improve liquid physics and finish his latest creation “The Device.”  He steps outside his home laboratory and finds himself locked outside the house by one of his latest Fluro so he goes to…

Jagged Alliance: Back in Action Preview

jagged-alliance-back-in-action

First released in 1994 by Sir-Tech, Jagged Alliance is a classic PC game which features tactical, turn-based gameplay in controlling a squad of mercenaries against various enemies across numerous maps. Kalypso Media and bitTech have sought to remake the sequel to that game, Jagged Alliance 2, and bring it into the modern age with 3D graphics and a completely new UI (as well as some other surprises). The biggest change between this game and the original is that the new version is played in real-time with paused, turn-based gameplay. Some have criticized this, but it really helps keep the game moving as well as satisfy that need for turn-based, classic action. I prefer to move…

Yesterday Preview (PC)

yesterday-01

Yesterday recently came on our radar so it was time to give it a look and see how the company that brought us the Runaway series and The Next Big Thing did when they took on a thriller.  Pendulo Studios maintain their excellence in 2D animation with this work though the mood from the opening animation is one of creepiness and occult.  After the first animation it plays like a standard puzzle game, introducing the quirks of a couple of likable characters who it is soon revealed have some very unlikable quirks.  In New York City, beggars are disappearing one after another later to be found burnt alive.  Meanwhile, a Y-shaped scar forms in the…

HereTheyCome

The Battlefield Heroes have a new way for the Royals and Nationals to duke it out that will have everyone more on the run than ever.  The game mode Capture The Flag is being added to the play-for-free game so that, for the first time in the history of Battlefield Heroes, their objectives will be on the move.  Previous matches have always been for set locations, whether it is four capture points or just one it has always been capture locations where this one is picking up a flag while under attack by defenders and trying to run it through the city streets back to your base to officially capture it.  If the flag carrier…

Diablo III Beta First Impressions (Preview)

diablo301

I was one of the lucky folks who was able to get to go to last year’s BlizzCon and see the information about Diablo III beginning to seep out.  Goosebumps shot across my flesh as I got to see the video on the giant screen of the new class: Demon Hunter.  Now fast forward to almost a year later and I am sitting at my home computer firing up the beta test.  I was surprised when word went around that there was no NDA on the game anymore but after a bit of play I got the point.  Having beta tested many games I have seen what a beta looks and behaves like and this…

D23 Preview – Kinect: Disneyland Adventures (X360)

d23-kinect-disneyland-adventures

While on the show floor at this weekend’s D23 expo in Anaheim, CA we got the chance to get up-close and personal with the upcoming Kinect: Disneyland Adventures from Disney Interactive and Microsoft.
Moving about Disneyland is very simple: Simply point your left hand in the direction you wish to run and off you go. The biggest issue in navigation seems to be turning, which is accomplished by angling your left hand or twisting your body. In typical Kinect style, this is not as responsive as one would hope so it is easy to under or over-shoot your intended direction.
Riding the various attractions offered during the expo (6 of the currently unknown number were available), players…

Hard Reset Preview (PC)

Hard-Reset-4e45abac6d72c

Coming out of left field, Polish development studio Wild Hog recently sent out a press preview of their first PC title, Hard Reset.  The cyber-punk first person shooter sends the player into a chaotic world filled with nasty robots and other crazy beings.  The game takes place in Baezor City where the future does not look very hopefully for human life.  You are Major Fletcher, a hard nosed security officer who is sent into the field to uncover the strange disturbances going on in the city.  Let’s take a look at what we liked so far about the game and what fell a little short.

Developer Octane Games latest trip is into a post-apocalyptic world where factions are at war over resources and slaves.  The factions war will send the world further into chaos if not for the Wasteland Angel.  A deadly heroine who uses her weapons filled card to wreck havoc on any mutant thrown her way.  We got our hands on a press preview of the game via STEAM so let’s jump in our car and see how many people we can blow up.
Wasteland Angel feels like something I have played many times before.  In the same style of games like the great SMASH TV, Wasteland Angel has you driving a killer car around 6 different locations with…

A Brief Taste of Uncharted 3 Multiplayer (PSN/Beta Test)

5629955373_5a954e04d7_b

I logged on to play a little DC Universe Online before heading to bed and… what’s this?  Would I like to play Uncharted 3 Multiplayer Beta?  Yes please!  I sat and stared at the download screen afraid it might stop if I walked away.  Almost there, almost there, bam!  In I dove having never played an Uncharted game. I have to state that because the initial headset chatter had a lot of “what the hell is Ripper doing?” or “So… you are just spraying and not aiming?” in it and I felt they deserve an explanation.  After I figured out the controls though I was hooked and hooked solidly.  This was a beautiful co-op!  I…
